Fixture Update
Sunday 19th October is now Wilmslow Away 10.30am kick off
Northwich V Crewe & Nantwich 12sth October 2008
The hard work of Backs coaches Tracey Taylor-Brewer & Mike Spibey paid off today at Northwich as Crewe & Nantwich ruled the game from the start.
Brad Brewer opened their account with an excellent try in the corner after Dylan Bratherton and Damon Cragg exposed the Northwich defense on their 22 line, continuous pressure from the forwards gave Brad the space to dive over the line early in the first half.
Northwich came straight back and played deep in the Crewe & Nantwich half forcing them to kick their way out. Unfortunately their clearance kick went straight to the Northwich winger who didn’t need a second invitation to the Crewe & Nantwich try-line.
Within 2 minutes of the slip-up Will Linde was released by great rugby from James Whittaker and George Price to touchdown in the corner and straight after the re-start Northwich conceded a penalty and Damon Cragg, Jaques Cador and Chris Lawrence smashed their way through the Northwich defence to give William Nevill the chance to score under the posts. Ben Telfer converted the kick to put Crewe & Nantwich 17 – 5 ahead.
Sam Brunsdon’s return from injury was successful as he led more pressure from the Crewe & Nantwich forwards setting Paul Scull on a brilliant 50 metre run which gave Will Linde the opportunity to steal the ball from the following Northwich line-out and run solo into the corner to give his team a 22 – 5 half time advantage.
The second half started with Eddie Spibey splitting the Northwich defence line and Alex Sinclair thundering through to 5 metres short of the opposition line. In the following scrum, pressure from Noah Appleby, Damon Cragg and Paul Scull allowed Will Linde to pick up the ball and stroll to his 3rd try of the day. Ben Telfer stepped up to complete the conversion with a drop-goal in the absence of a tee.
Will Duckers had four terrific runs today and only great defensive work from the tiring Northwich team denied him a score. Andrew Holland Had to have ten minutes on the touch-line following an injury to his eye, but was soon back in the scrums that were dominated by the Crewe & Nantwich squad.
The newest member of the Crewe & Nantwich squad Liam Cross, enjoyed a hard fought second half on the wing and showed no nerves as he contributed to the solid defence that kept Northwich down to only one try. Crewe & Nantwich came away 36 points to 5 in a brilliant all round performance.

Happy Crewe & Nantwich under thirteens team today.
Now looking forward to their trip to Anselmians next week. Then it’s intensive training for their Cheshire cup first round tie at home to local rivals Sandbach on the 23rd November.
Crewe & Nantwich Under 13s train on Wednesday evenings at the Vagrants from 6pm – 7.30.
With a current squad of 20 still looking for new recruits.
